  • Indians don't normally smile in photos, Lyndsey says. That's why the 5-6 years are usually scowling in the older pictures, because they're trying to "look serious," which doesn't come naturally at that age.


    They have to be convinced that westerners will think they're unhappy if they don't smile, which CI has undertaken the last couple of years. In this photo of Sabita & parents, I think she and her mother are teasing her father about his resolution not to smile--he looks like he's working hard not to laugh! (Click on the photo to blow it up.)
