  • If they get into 11th grade and are able to deal with school fees, I think they're OK. And recently CI has changed the rules so that they don't have to leave the program after marrying (assuming their new family is in a project area, of course). This was to address privacy laws in some countries (since often an early marriage is the result of pregnancy). I think for India it will allow a bridge between a the old ways and the new, which may make for an easier transition for the culture. Remember that in India, these marriages aren't usually 2 kids who've gotten into "trouble;" they're 2 families agreeing that the teenage daughter of one will join the other as the wife of a son who is usually in his twenties or older. In part that's the prevent "trouble;" it also brings the new family member in at a more pliable age when she's (theoretically) easier to integrate into their family ways.
