So I did what I said I wasn't gonna do

has anyone else ever done that ha. Back when I started sponsoring Gerson there was a little boy from Chile that caught my eye,I debated long and hard between him and Gerson and ended up taking on Gerson,at the time my plans were to just sponsor out of the 3 countries I already had children in which would be Ecuador,Guatemala, and The Philippines. Well a couple of months passed and of course I found myself back on the CI site looking at children well automatically Allan and Lucero jumped out at me and I just could not say no even though Lucero was not in a country I was already sponsoring in. After I confirmed my sponsorship with them I noticed that the little fella from Chile was still waiting for a sponsor well of course it broke my heart but I knew at that time I couldn't take him on too since I just took on two more children. So anyways I told myself as I do everytime that I had to avoid the CI site because it was becoming dangerous for me lol. Well the avoiding went well for about a month, last night I decided just to see if any new kiddos has been added and some had,but also in the midst of them was the little guy from Chile,I didn't have the heart to leave the site without sponsoring him,so here I am now with 9 kids,I hope and pray that I can make a difference in the lives of these 9 kids even if it means I have to do without. Anyways I would like to introduce 13 year old Cristofer Andres to you. He lives in Valparaiso,Chile with his mom, dad, and two little brothers, their monthly income is $97. He will be turning 14 in August and so I will be sending him a package soon, does anyone know of anything to give a boy of that age? My oldest sponsored boy is 8 so I am not really sure what to buy for a boy this old,any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and God bless!!

  • OMG! 9 kids? Thats exactly what I said when I ended up with my now 7! I have 6 girls: From Ecuador Genesys age 9 and Lizeth age 8, In the Philippines Jenny Rose 13, Princess Audrey 9 and little Mary Grace who is just 2 ( I'm gonna have fun with her!) And India Partha 11 and Anjali 14.

With Partha being the only boy in my group,I sometimes find myself wondering what to get a child of 11 years old,but I went to the store the other day and bought him a really nice outfit. I hope you enjoy this beautiful ride and welcome back!

  • Before sponsoring my first child in a few years (a lovely girl named Johvana from Colombia), I was actually looking at Cristofer Andres. I am so glad he found a sponsor!

  • As for his birthday I would recommend sending clothes, gym shoes, and a soccer ball. Many children in Latin America love soccer and this would insure he can play.

  • I also have to avoid the child listings for now. It is hard to not open your arms to another child. If you do see a child that you really feel needs a sponsor though try passing their link around to friends and family and tell them how much the child needs a sponsor and how it is so hard for you to not sponsor the child, but you just cant since you already sponsor so many. Maybe one of them will sponsor the child. I know a few of my friends are really looking into sponsoring because I have showed them many children that I want to sponsor and just cant.

  • How wonderful that you decided to sponsor Cristofer!

Back in the "olden days" before we were as automated as we are now, each child photo was sent to us by the SOA and kept in HUGE  file cabinets sorted by country and child id.

Each phone rep had an "assignment" box on their desk, which was a box of photos of children awaiting sponsors.  When potential sponsors would call in, we would look for a child in our assignment boxes based on the persons criteria.

You wanna talk about hard not to fall in love with their photos and want to sponsor them all!!!!  Every few days someone from the "file cabinet" dept. would come up and refill our boxes and between calls we would look at all the new photos and show each other the "new" kids.

Many of those kids were never assigned to potential sponsors, they found a sponsor in the phone rep who had them in "their box."
