    • Sonia and Yiseth

    • Sonia and Yiseth, two sponsored children from Cartagena, talk as we are waiting for lunch. I am glad that they seemed to get along well together. Both are eleven years old, have been sponsored for six years, have a younger brother, live with relatives and both like science. I didn't plan it that way! :) Now here is how they are different, Yiseth loves to talk and Sonia is more reserved!
    • Inauguration of New Ecuador Community Center

    • In a show of responsible corporate leadership, executives from CPX Interactive (http://cpxinteractive.com) inaugurate Children International's newest community center, which will help impoverished children in Guayaquil, Ecuador. CPX Interactive executives, feeling compelled to make a difference to poor children, encouraged their colleagues to join them in funding the construction of the B.U.D.S. Community Center, where over 5,000 children will receive medical and dental care, educational support and nutrition education. An effective model for community development, the new center marks the sixth Children International center in Guayaquil that serves poor children and their families from marginal areas of the city. The center will provide benefits to poor families who often live on less than a dollar a day and reside in makeshift shacks with dirt floors on the outskirts of a major metropolitan area.

    • I just found this new photo of Omar in my account. This one is dated 11/21/11- about 3 weeks before Omar's 19th birthday. This will be the last CI photo of him, since he'll be graduating from the program soon. I was really happy to see this photo because I was wondering whether I'd get one last picture of him before he graduated.

    • "Dear Inga Receive a cordial greeting. I hope you are doing well. I felt very happy with the pretty gift I received, such as the pillow, the pencils, the notebook, the necklace and earrings, which are very pretty. I am very happy with the details (?) you have given to me. I thank God for the sponsor like you, a nice person. I hope to meet you someday. My mother sends lots of greetings to you and your family. I am doing very well in school. I want to be like you someday. Give my greetings to your dogs. I say goodbye, Yuselfi" That is such a nice letter! I'm so glad to hear she is improving in school and hope that tutoring she's receiving helps her to improve her grades.

    • Paz Belen 2004

    • Paz's first CI photo.  While browsing the site for Honduran teenagersin January 2005, I discovered more countries, more children, and I was astounded by how many children stared out at me needing help (come to find out, there were many thousands more, but I was just getting started.)  When I saw Paz, she reminded me so much of my second daughter with her braids, her pink and purple sweater, and the sparkle in her eye, I was taken!  Paz is now my longest sponsered child.
    • Paz Has a New Bike

    • With her SNG Paz Belen, 10, Chile, purchased a new bike.  She had out grown her first bike ages ago, and had another bike stolen, so hopefully this one will keep her rolling for a while.  I love her smiles in these photos, and this is when I learned Paz is left-handed. A couple of interesting notes:  there is a purple handled crutch leaning against the wall;  someone seems to be outside the window looking in, a parent maybe?

    • A Bright Light in my Life

    • I decided to create this set so that you can follow all of my story with Sebastian. He's the little boy I am sponsoring. He is a wondefrul cute and very bright little boy from Colombia. And he has been a source of good and warm feelings in me. Just looking at him, or thinking about ways I can make his life at least a little better (or when I dream about having enough money to make significant changes) lifts me up when I'm feeling down. I hope our bond lasts for life.

    • Carolyn Andrea

    • Carolyn is my eighth sponsored child with Children International, and my sixteenth sponsored child ever. I sponsored her on 10/22/2007 or one or two days before that date. Carolyn was a child I chose from a booklet that CI sent to me asking me to sponsor a child from their waiting list. I took the booklet and did certain choices on it. Carolyn was my second choice. When I called CI to sponsor a child from that booklet, my first choice was already sponsored. So Carolyn became my then new sponsored child. The uncertainty I express on the previous paragraph is due to I didn't get a sponsorship confirmation email since I called CI directly to sponsor her. I did download her pictures on 10/22/2007, so I guess this was the same day of sponsorship or maybe one or two days after. Carolyn is eight years old. She lives in Honduras with her father, mother, and one brother. Carolyn writes her own letters. She has a clear and pretty handwriting. She is a very loving child. After Jose Antonio, she is the most loving of my sponsored children. She is also the one who more readily anwers my questions. It was funny that the first letter I got from her, she told me that she was pretty. Of course, I told her that I already knew that by seeing her pictures. :-) Carolyn is very sweet. I'm glad I sponsored her.
    • Nohelia

    • Nohelia is my twelveth sponsored child with Children International, my twentieth sponsored child ever, and my most recent sponsorship. I sponsored her on 4/28/2009 along with Clarizze and Nicole Ann. As with the other two, Nohelia was another impulsive sponsorship. If you have read the descriptions on Clarizze and/or Nicole, you already know the story. I entered CI's website and browsed through the girls list. I saved her page along with two more and I couldn't resist to sponsor all three of them. I sponsored Nohelia after Clarizze and Nicole Ann, so she is now my twelveth sponsored child with Children International. When I sponsored her, her photo album contained two pictures, the first one from 7/31/2008 and the second one from 12/18/2008. Someone on CI confirmed to me that I am her first sponsor. So it's likely that I'll be her only sponsor. Nohelia was only four years old when I sponsored her, the youngest among my sponsored children. She is now five. She lives on Ecuador with her father, mother, and one sister who is 16 years old; speaks my native language, Spanish; and likes to play with dolls. A really good surprise is that her family is now earning $500 monthly instead of the meager $180 that they earned when I sponsored her. I'll need to wait long for the time when she can write her own letters, maybe three to four years. Alyson is also from Ecuador and she neither writes by herself. I have read that Ecuadorian children are very loving. I just cannot wait for the time when one of them will write to me. Alyson goes before Nohelia on that. She will begin writing before Nohelia. And Nohelia is beautiful. She has a gorgeous curly hair. And being a 4yo girl, she doesn't seem to be very shy.
