After 9 full weeks we received the SNG report from Daniel! The report was made the 27th of July, but Spain is unfortunately on holiday in August, so things just don't happen or are slowed down so much that we received the report the 30th of August!
Anyway, It's always, always, always worth the waiting!
Daniel got his soccer ball! That was the only thing we specified as a wish when we sent the money. The rest was for CI to decide what to buy. I am so happy for the things he got. From the pictures (yes, yes, the scanner....bla, bla, bla) it seems that clothes and shoes are of a good quality, I think it's important - things that can stand a 9 - year old boy's 'treatment'.
And now the letter:
......I want to thank you for all the things you send me that are a pair of school shoes, a long sleeve t-shirt, a sport suit, a box of underpants, a pair of sneakers and a soccer ball. I am super (!) happy because I'll be able to play with my friends.Well, I want to tell you I'm on winter school break and did very well at school.My family sends much regards to you and your family. I say goodbye "con mucho cariño" (much affection)

The report says that Daniel was very happy for the items received, especially for the soccer ball and the sneakers. And later that "it is a very useful donation, he needed the clothes and shoes, and he's happy to have a soccer ball and new sneakers to play with."
On the pictures he is wearing a wintercoat and ear pads (is that the right word? - to keep the ears warm!) He looks so sweet!!! It's cold in Valparaíso, about 13º C = 55 F.When we sent the money we were near 40º = 104F here in Spain. We didn't really think about that he lives "on the other side of the world" even if we have noticed the temperatures from time to time. Maybe we should have asked for a better winter coat, but again, would it have made him super happy?

This is my blog for my sponsored child Monserrat from Chile. I remember when I first saw her picture there was something about her shy and reserved expression that drew me to her and I am pleased to say that she is part of my CI family. Monserrat is 9 years old and lives in Chile with her parents and older sister. Her father is a daily worker and her mother is a homemaker and their family income is $96/month. Their home consists of two bedrooms and a dining room with some of the basic household items such as a gas stove, beds and a toilet. I sent Monserrat and her family an SNG, in their report they mostly requested items for the household, some groceries, and winter clothing for Monserrat.
Monserrat's talent is dancing and her favorite school subjects are math and grammar. Her favorite pastime activity is reading (big smile on my face), which also means there will be more book shopping for me to do! Clearly, that makes me excited but I'm even more excited about receiving Monserrat's first letter which I thought was sweet and gave me a little more insight into who she is and what her interests and hobbies are. Here is what she wrote (translated from Spanish):
Dear Sponsor:
I would like to thank you for being my sponsor; I am happy about it and would like to tell you something about me. I live with my dad Eugenio, my mom Elia, and my sister Charlotte. I attend school at 4th grade and get very good marks. I like music and my best friend is Katerine. Could you please send me a picture to know you? I hope this letter finds you well and beside your beloved ones. I send you a big kiss.

I think it's really cute that in her letter she calls me her madrina or godmother as it's translated, I guess it's similar to the meaning of sponsor. It's great to know that she is doing well in school. Also, on the back of the letter she drew a scenic picture filled with flowers and trees. She selected more of her favorite hobbies such as singing, drawing and practicing sports. I have already sent her a package with some books in Spanish, a notebook, hair clips, and pens. Now that I know she likes music and sports I will ask her in my response what kind of music and sports she likes and send her something that suits her interests. I am happy to get a glimpse into who Monserrat is and I look forward to getting to know more about this lovely girl! - Blog post

On the back of the letter there are a few questions with options to check. She didnt do those but she did draw me a beautiful picture! A little girl holding a doll (which Im sure is her!) with a tree next to her.
Wasnt that sweet? I am so glad to hear she's doing so well in school! She asked for a picture, she will get one :) I dont have a digital camera at the moment but am planning on buying one in the next few weeks, just so I can take pics of me for my kiddos. A cheap camera but that will do.
