I would like to hear about IGP stories, successes or failures and get the people's feedback. Also, there was another post by Blue that asked the question of how local politics hinder or help CI abroad or something similar.
Thanks. I look forward to reading the blogs.

That's a very good question Blue, perhaps that is something they can add to the new "blog" in what sponsors would like to know about. I would like to know. :)

Income Generating Project. Similar to microenterprise loans, except for the "loan" part--the project is financed by gifts. They can be a full-time enterprise, a part-time enterprise, or equipment to improve the proceeds of an existing activity. There's a blog posting from a couple days back about a Filipino father who does landscaping; his only tool is a machete. So $125-$225 can provide him with better tools which should allow him to serve more customers.

I think it would be nice to hear from the doctors, dentists, teachers etc. that work with the CI children to get their perspective on the program and its impact on their communities.

It's a staffer from the Quito agency talking about the numbers in the Quito program - 5760 letters received for 22,500 kids. Even if the sponsors who do write only write one a year, we're talking 80% who never do. It's a good post to see the kid's side of writing and receiving letters.

I just got it today by e-mail in the monthly lifter e-news thingy. Here's what it said:
"This month, we'd like you to meet some of the most inspiring kids we know. Each day in September, Lifters will be able to submit questions to a group of dynamic sponsored youth at the LiftOne Youth Forum. Drop by and read what the kids have to say. You never know - you might even learn something yourself!"
I don't know the details but it sounds awesome!

I really enjoy the success stories. For the most part though I love everything that's posted. i consume it all! I'd love any stories about sponsors and their kids who maintained contact even after sponsorship too...maybe just one or two stories. I like knowing that there's a possibility of friendship continuing.
Also hearing from the kids themselves...I'm summer pumped about the notification that went out that next month we'll be able to ask sponsored kids questions!

I would love to hear from the parents of sponsored children and also from children who have graduated the program. It would also be nice to read about projects that the children are working on in their communities, like the group of teens wanting to put in a latrine at a community health clinic in Zambia, by the way, is there a follow up on that story?
Thanks!

Health education is a big part of the program, both for the kids and their parents (if they're willing). There's a whole Youth Health Corps that trains teens to go out and talk to/train their peers about these issues. The most recent blog posting from CI (see the Blogs & Stories header) talks about this somewhat.

Message board (discussion) queries stay active longer, because every time someone replies to a discussion that discussion goes to the top of the "discussion" pane on the dashboard. The most recently-posted blogs are shown in the blog pane, but there's no change when comments on posted to blogs. Comments on blogs are noted in the "News" pane, along with new photos, comments on photos, ratings, friending, etc., so they're harder to track.
